Cougar Alumni Club meets Saturday, August 1st!

We are thrilled to announce that the Cougar Alumni Club's next Quarterly Meeting and Breakfast will take place on August 1st at 9:00 AM at Cocina del Charro, located at 890 W. Valley Pkwy, Escondido. The cost of the event is $16 and includes a delicious Continental breakfast. Enjoy this excellent opportunity to connect, network, and share our Cougar pride.

Our guest speaker is an Escondido Legend and 2026 EHS Hall of Fame inductee George Weir (Class of 1972). While attending EHS, George served as student body vice-president, was a member of the Key Club, Cougar Knights, orchestra, band, swim team and football team. After high school George graduated form San Diego State University. George subsequently founded Weir Asphalt Company and several other local businesses and charitable organizations and has been widely recognized for his philanthropic and business efforts. The Escondido restaurant opens at 8:00 AM with our event beginning promptly at 9:00. Tickets purchased for $16 at the door include Cocina’s American Continental breakfast.

As we plan our events, the club leadership would like your help. To make these breakfasts
as engaging and valuable as possible, we are seeking your suggestions for guest speakers.

Is there a local business leader, a distinguished fellow alum, a fascinating professor from campus, or a community trailblazer
you would be interested in hearing from? We welcome any and all ideas! Please take a moment to consider who you'd find inspiring

Welcome TO THE Cougar Alumni cLUB!

Formerly the Cougar Athletic Club

The Cougar Alumni Club (CAC) devotes its time and energy to the students, alumni and friends of Escondido High School. We endeavor to link the legacy of Escondido High School alumni to current students and future graduates. The Cougar Alumni Club raises funds and offers scholarships to graduating Escondido High School Seniors who have plans to continue their academic pursuits at the college of their choice.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Over the life of the CAC, we have awarded over $80,000.00 in scholarships, and currently fund $10,000.00 in scholarships per year. The CAC scholarship recipients are selected using the following criteria:

1. CAC Scholarships (4 per year):

• Academic excellence, including rigor, diversity of curriculum, progress, and sustained merit, as measured in the student’s transcript;

• Athletic participation and leadership, requiring a varsity letter, and contribution to the program, as described in personal biography and/or letters of recommendation;

• Service beyond self, at school and/or community, to be elaborated in application biography and /or letters of recommendation;

• Financial need, as established in a confidential memo included in application form; and

• Widest distribution of scholarship recipients when feasible, to include as many deserving candidates as possible.

2. EMBREY/SHIVER Scholarships (2 per year):

Awarded to one female and one male who demonstrate all of the above plus extraordinary character and leadership as modeled by our scholarships namesakes.

3. The WILSON Scholarship (2 per year):

Awarded to the student athletes who demonstrates the highest level of service and generosity as modeled by Bob Wilson and his family.

The CAC is committed and dedicated to the values and mission of Escondido High School. We value the friendships gained in high school and maintained with devotion after graduation. Our obligation to helping alumni maintain these relationships is a natural steadfastness for us and is fundamental to our mission.

STRONG

Since 1894, we have proved to be people of not only strength athletically and academically, but also people with strong character. We are honest and fair, show courage in standing up for our beliefs, and have a strong sense of responsibility for our community. We maintain self-respect for ourselves and those around us.

TRUE

Being true to yourself is a key virtue taught at EHS. This involves being devoted and vulnerable; but never naïve. We are firm in our allegiance to the school, its traditions, and to each other. We are not perfect, but to remain true to our character, we pursue the actions needed to improve our inner spirit and remain a Cougar at heart.

Located approximately 30 miles northeast of San Diego and 18 miles inland, Escondido is home to over 148,000 residents in a region that is double that size. With strong agricultural roots, this vibrant and diverse community’s economic base is made up of largely successful small businesses. The Escondido Union High School District prepares future generations for academic, personal, and social success. For over 130 years, Escondido High School has served the students of the region well. As the second oldest high school in the County of San Diego, and the largest of the three comprehensive high schools in the District, Escondido High School proudly serves more than 2,200 students in an environment that still holds true to the values of the rural past.
